Our contractor recommended a PVC type molding because I think he said grout wouldn't hold up. If you have smoothwall finishes, I can only imagine how bad they rolled that looking at the trim. What would you do for gap between tub and floor tile minac 13 years ago I wanted to get your advice on what would you do for the gap between the tub and floor tile. You'll need to caulk it again, repaint it etc. The gap? Well, you'll need to cut the caulking, use a mallet to hammer it down and hold it down while someone nails it in. Also, this is a glue down installation and the installer leveled the slab before the install. Modern styles are high end finishes, to fix it, all trim needs to be sanded and sprayed. He also offered to caulk the bottom of the quarter round to fill the gaps, but I am reading that that is not recommended because it is a magnet for dust and dirt and hard to clean and also may affect expansion and contraction of the floor. Those moldings should have been sprayed, not brushed. 3rd, they did a crappy job brushing on the paint. Looks like they caulked the nail holes smearing along tththe side and was not cleaned properly. The nail holes in that pine wood needed to be patched twice then sanded. 2nd, that is the crappiest prep and paint work I have ever seen. When installed, you'll need 2 people, one to hold it down to flex over tile and the other to nail it. Difference is I WILL FIX IT vs I WILL HAVE THEM FIX IT.īecause that's a 3/4 inch thick base also known as a 1x3 or 1x4, you cant bend it very well Iike 1/2 baseboard. I am glad you see an issue here but go hire a professional licensed carpenter and painter who actually shows up with his crew. Like countertops, those baseboard molding gaps can be unsightly. Homeowners gladly accept it all to save a couple dollars. Thankfully, baseboard gaps with your floor can be easily sealed cleanly - with InstaTrim Flexible Trim Strips. There are so many real tradespeople losing work daily to illegals who undercut the job pricing and delivering this type of work. People like shiny eye catching things and 95% of home buyers would accept that work rathe then pay say the extra $5k to have their house properly trimmed and painted by a true professional. Today to become a carpenter you watch HGTV and buy a couple tools never needing to apprentice or learn a trade. The extras money will save tons of aggravation with arguing with someone who just won't get it. Sorry but I would just hire someone else and get it done right. That door jamb, caulking and lack of prep of the trim is poor. If that so called carpenter carried a simple plane and even leaned on the piece as he or she was installing they could be avoided. The gap from floor to molding is acceptable but with straight stock like that was easily avoidable. ![]() This is the issue today people have zero clue what quality is. Silicone caulk comes in all kinds of colors and shades. If it is more significant than this, the caulk will not cover it. Using caulk is suitable if the gap between the baseboard and carpet is smaller than ½. You are taking close up pics of isolated areas and i am sure the overall picture is better. If the gap between the interior wall and baseboard is relatively tiny, you can seal it up with silicone caulk. Yes, there are issues here but the bigger problem is it shows the lack of craftsmanship the builder has.
